Open Questions

Velmeran gives a second and a fourth impression under this number — Clays, GBP 9.99 each — and does not say which edition they belong to. They sat on the 1991 group with a twentieth, twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh until August 2026, when the five were split between the 2002 edition and the 2015 one. That split reads the numbering as one continuing sequence, which is what separates the twentieth from the twenty-sixth; and on that reading a second and a fourth cannot be the 2002 edition’s at all, the 1994 edition being known to a fifth. On the reading that the 2002 edition begins again, which is what every other History of Middle-earth 2002 edition does, they can be. The other three are safe under either reading and stay where they are. These two are not, so they are kept here rather than asserted of any edition.
