NOTE: The ninth impression exists twice. tolkienbooks.net records two, dated 1974 and 1978, and only the 1978 one is acknowledged in later copies. That 1978 printing is also where the heavier text paper came in, thickening the book by about 5mm. The Fellowship of the Ring escaped the doubling and ran straight on to a fifteenth, which is why its impression numbers sit one above this volume’s from here.
